
The Client
Bursa Malaysia is an exchange holding company approved under Section 15 of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007. It operates a fully-integrated exchange, offering the complete range of exchange-related services including trading, clearing, settlement and depository services. The wholly-owned subsidiaries of Bursa Malaysia own and operate the various businesses.
The Challenge
The challenge was to review, analyze, rethink and redesign the existing performance management which was not dynamic enough to meet the changing business needs, and to ensure that it met the needs of both management and employees in terms of facilitating the smooth cascading of the exchange’s business strategy across all business lines, and rewarded employees fairly for the achievement of business objectives, yet assuring that in the process development needs were also identified and built into the scorecards.
The Result
During 2008, Bursa Malaysia partnered with BCM Consulting to transform it’s performance management processes across its equities and derivatives business and the other supporting business units to develop a thoroughly researched and customised system that met the needs of all the businesses within the group. After a thorough review of the existing processes, BCM worked closely with the HR Team at Bursa to design and implement a scorecard based purpose built process that supports the goal setting, tracking and reporting of each businesses’ key result areas through sharply focused KPI’s. This was followed up by BCM providing learning workshops where all managers had an opportunity to build their skills in performance management. The whole process was completed in less than six months and ensured that the national exchange had a firm handle on its business through managing and rewarding people performance.

The Client
As a leading partner to the international automotive industry, Continental makes individual mobility safer and more comfortable all over the world. Their Chassis & Safety Division drives innovations in the areas of active and passive driving safety, safety and chassis sensors, and chassis components. With a strong and well equipped R & D centre they are already developing tomorrow’s electronic and hydraulic braking and stability control systems, sensors, driver assistance, airbag and passenger classification systems and electronic air suspension systems. Continental continues to be a key supplier for our national car project in addition to a portfolio of clientele that includes the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Audi, and even Harley Davidson. The Penang plant facilities are used to manufacture the engine electronic control boards, instrument clusters, and timing devices.

During 2007, Continental partnered with BCM to review its business strategy, and then align it’s business performance management processes to develop a thoroughly researched and customised implementation that met the needs of the businesses. BCM in collaboration with the senior management team at Continental designed and delivered a purpose built business delivery process that supports the strategy, goal setting, tracking and reporting of each businesses’ key result areas through sharply focused KPI’s, and creating a strong alignment between business units and improved execution.

HSBC’s presence in Malaysia dates back to 1884 when the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited established its first office in the country, on the island of Penang, with privileges to issue currency notes. HSBC is indirectly the oldest bank in Malaysia. Currently HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad has a network of 40 full service branches nationwide, employs more than 5,000 people in Malaysia, providing business banking, consumer banking, credit cards, home loans, insurance products, deposits and investment services across conventional and Islamic banking markets.

After facilitating focus groups that allowed us to discover the frustrations of both managers and team members with the existing processes, BCM in collaboration with the HR Team at HSBC designed and delivered a purpose built process that supports the goal setting, tracking and reporting of each businesses’ key result areas through sharply focused KPI’s. The bank has also since then implemented on-line tools for developing performance objectives for business units and team members that are key elements of the performance management process.

The Challenge
The challenge was to review the organisational needs of the group across both its life and general business units, following the need to integrate and redesign the existing organisation structure and the compensation and benefits structure following the merger between MCIS and Zurich Insurance Malaysia.
The Result
During 2006, BCM partnered with started a comprehensive review of the organisation structure of the business which included a comprehensive review of the business processes, and then reevaluating and consolidating the various roles, ascertaining the job worth and job grading, followed by compensation & benefits planning including review of existing compensation & benefits and benchmarking jobs against market ,identifying C & B issues/gaps and adjustment of compensation & benefits structure to bridge gaps. BCM then assisted MCIS Zurich to migrate successfully to the revised compensation & benefits structure

The company is part of the global Dover Corporation.
The Challenge
Their management team is taking an initiative to implement lean manufacturing and quality management in order to stay relevant to their customers in terms of product quality and services, as well as to monitor a good practice of work and maintaining superior business performance. Thus the challenge was to design, train, consult and implement the Lean Six Sigma and total Lean Manufacturing system in their Malaysia’s plant.
The Result
Started on 2009, BCM has helped them with a series of training such Introduction To Lean Six Sigma, Problem Solving Using PDCA, Statistical Process Control, Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Measurement System Analysis and Effective Project Management for their whole production team in Malaysia. We also assist them in 5S implementation throughout the plant.
